| 2009 Season
The Mary Lou Crew is getting ready for the 2009 season, we will once again be fishing out of Sandy Hook Bay Marina located in the Highlands NJ for the month of May striper fishing!!! We will then move the boat down the coast to Hoffmans Marina in Brielle NJ for the remainder of the season. We are looking forward to another great season for 2009 and hope to see our customers back onboard with us. We have kept our prices the same as last year and decided that we will not have a fuel surcharge. Unless fuel prices go out of control we hope to keep our prices the same! Give us a call early to book the early Striper fishing which in the years past has been great!!! See you at the dock

Mary Lou Crew is in the water!!!! We start this weekend going after the Stripers, hope fishing turns on!! If you get a chance to see the 2009 NJ Fish and Game Marine Digest the cover shot of the blue shark was on the Mary Lou Crew last season looks great! Thanks to that Charter!!!!! Stripers
The Mary Lou Crew was out with Tom and his son Robert Cannon for a half day trip of stripers! We started the day off catching the last hour or so of the outgoing tide, and we had the fish going for a while. More shorts then keepers but did put 4 nice ones in the box. Left when the tide slacked and went on the troll and put one more 35 inch fish in the box. This gave us our two man limit plus one bonus fish. Great trip with Tom and Robert! Stripers
Had the Maureen group from Sussex County school for a shot at the stripers. We made a few drops but never really got the fish going. We ended the day with 5 keepers and a dozen shorts. Of course we did have a few bluefish. Conditions were not great with thick thick fog! Great group to spend the day on the water with!!! Stripers
Had the Mike Gates party out again for another great half day Striper trip. With the wind blowing real real hard out of the North West and in real sloppy conditions the group stuck it out and got in on a nice bite! We filled the box up with stripers and added some bluefish to the cooler as well. All fish were caught in 3 hours and we were back at the dock where the weather was much nicer!!! Stripers
Was out with retired Chief of Police George Haydu and his son for a half day trolling trip. We had the rods in the water for less then 5 minutes and had the first fish on. The fish were their on the surface and we caught some nice fish. However the bite came fast but ended just as fast!! The largest fish was 32 pounds!!! With the others in the mid teens. Of course the bluefish took some of the prime time away from us but better then no bites!!! Stripers
Had George Gibson and his crew from Sussex County NJ out for a day of Striper fishing. Well George did it again!!!! We fished one location and never had to leave and by 1pm the cooler was full with the 6 man limit. The largest fish was 32 pounds with three others in the mid 20's! Great trip again for George!!! Stripers
Captain Darren and first mate Phil Mancini took the boat out for a little magic hours fishing for ourselves. With the thunderstorms not arriving for a little time we decided to make a run and see if we could get in on the hot striper bite. Well it never fails we crushed the fish. Non stop action from the time the spoon hit the water, we could not get two in at a time. We then switched over and jigged the fish. All the fish we in the mid 20's with an occasional 30 mixed in. Made a run for the barn and made before the thunderstorms!! Stripers
Mary Lou Crew back out for our third day with John Lang and friends. We went right back to where we had them the night before and the fish we there waiting. First fish of the day started the trip out right going 34 pounds! By the end of the day the coolers were full and the boys were worn out from reeling!! What a great way to end the weekend!!! Stripers
We were out for a half day morning trip with the boys from Pats Tavern "Dave Foss Charter". The weather in the morning was horrible with driving rain and strong winds. The group toughed it out and after making one move we dropped the hook and clammed a cooler full of decent size fish. We caught over 30 shorts and no blue fish! The rain left and the weather eased up for the second half of the day and a nice ride home. Stripers
Back out for an afternoon trip with Steve Ehripz charter from Allentown PA. We went right back to where we had them in the morning but with the tide changing and the wind blowing the opposite direction we were no able to get them to eat. We decided to break out the trolling gear and it turned out to be a great move. The 6 man charter put 2 fish shy of there limit in the boat on all nice size fish. The biggest fish went 30 pounds on the button. Left the fish biting and had a beautiful ride back to the dock! Stripers
The Mary Lou Crew had the Michael Gates group on board again this season and running down to where we left the fish biting the night before we thought was going to be the ticket. However getting there and dropping them in produced no hits!! After a little bouncing around we finally found them. By the end of the trip we had 10 fat fish in the box along with 30 blue fish!!! Great bunch of guys and another fine trip for this group! Stripers
Back out for our 4th trip in a row with Gene Brennan from Brennans tree service in Union. With 4 guys we got out nice and early and this proved to be the ticket. Pulled the throttles back and dropped the spoons in the water and had our first striper in the boat in 10 minutes. This bite lasted two hours and by 7:30 we had the 4 man limit and on bonus fish for good measure!!! Today we did not see as many blue fish with only a handful coming to the boat. Message from the Captain
Stripe Bass fishing has been excellent with a lot of limit catches on big fish! Bottom fishing for Sea Bass has also really turned on. Anyone interested in getting in on the hot bite should contact me. We start our shark fishing this month and the waters are starting to warm up. I have been watching the satellite pictures daily and the water is moving in from the South. Give us a call if you are looking to try some excellent offshore fishing!!! Stripers
Had the boys from Cedar Grove Police Department out today for a full day Striper trip. Weather in the morning was not that great and it took a little looking around to find the bait. Finally got into some real nice size fish. Unfortunately today we had 15 bites but could only keep 5 fish on the hook. The biggest fish was 33 pounds and another at 30. Of course the biggest fish of the day we dropped near the boat. Shark
Mary Lou Crew was out for a day of sharking with just two onboard. Made our way out in thick fog and set up. Had our first bite in about an hour after setting up and continued through the day. At the end of the day no mako or thresher but had 6 blue sharks. Fog stayed with us all day but nice sharking weather. Water was still a little cold but fishable. Stripers
Had George Gibson and crew out again for another shot at some stripe bass. We started out on the troll but did not get a touch. We switched over to some live bunker after a call from another boat. We hooked up on 6 big fish during the bite, but the charter only managed to land 2 fish. Once the bite died we switched back to trolling but the fished stopped biting. A decent half day trip considering all the dropped fish! Sharks
Mary Lou Crew was out for the Brett T. Bailey mako tournament. After running and looking for some warm water, we settled in at our spot for the day. We sure did catch sharks however the were not the kind we were after!! The blue sharks were thick, so bad that we had to pull the lines out of the water and switch to sight fishing. We could not get a bait in the water without having one on. At the end of the day we lost count, and headed for home in nice sea conditions. Once again great job done by Art Dellasalla on running a top notch tournament!!! Shark
Mary Lou Crew was out with the boys from the Saw Mill Gun Club for a shot at the Jersey Coast Shark Tournament. With a nice forecast and ocean conditions we made a 56 mile run to great looking shark water. We set up and the waiting began and boy did this group stick it out. With not a bite all day it finally happened at 2:45pm!! It was are first Mako! It turned out to be a small one around 80lbs that was cut free. A few minutes later the rod goes off but the fish neverr takes the bait, we reel it up and another Mako at around 150lbs follows our bait right to the boat. After trying to get him to eat he finally takes a big bite of our bait next to the boat but never gets the hook! We set the lines again and 5 minutes later he takes the fillet!!! This time we have a solid hook in him and have him within 20 feet of the boat and the fish rolls up the leader makes a run and breaks us off!!! Not thinking this would be a fish for the winner board we get the lines back out and have another big shark eat again this time thinking its the one it turns out to be a 275lb blue shark. Great end to the day! The hard part was finding out on the last day that the fish we broke off would have put us on the board and we would have one some money!!!! Shark
The crew of the Mary Lou was out for day one of Mako Mania and day two of Jersey Coast for another shot! We went right back to the same area where we had the fish the day before. With no drift in flat seas it was not the greatest conditions for Makos. At around 9:15am the close rod next to the boat gets hit and right next to the boat a nice size Thresher eats the bait and the fight is on!!! After 50 minutes we have the fish hanging next to the boat! The rest of the day we only had blue sharks and no Makos!! Back at the scale the fish was weighed at Hoffmans Marina and we had 250 pound fish and a lot of shark steaks!!! Shark
Mary Lou Crew was back out for day two of Mako Mania and day three of Jersey Coast. Again going back to the same area of the last two days due to really good looking signs we had the lines in by 8am. At 9:30 we have our first hit and after a short time a 100 pound mako next to the boat. We all decided to cut him free to grow. The rest of the day we had several blue sharks except for one run on are long rod with a whole blue fish. This with thought was the one!!! After taking more then half the line on the 50vsw and a short fight, we bring him up and see its a dusky shark!!! We gave it a good go and had more fun the ever but did not get the right one for the scales!!! It hurt knowing that our first fish on Friday would have put us on the board and into some money!!! Shark
The Mary Lou Crew was out for one more shot at the sharks. Fishing in the JCSA High Rollers Shark Tournament with a nice forecast and beautiful weather we headed offshore. We made a quick stop at one spot but after sitting and drifting for about a half hour I decided it did not look right. We moved further east and found beautiful blue water with a ton of life so this is where we landed for the day! After 3 hours with out a touch on any lines, the wind picked up a little and the long line went off. The fish dumped 200 yards before I set up on it and had it hooked up! We new this was the right one!!! After two more real good runs the fish came to the boat like a puppy and 15 minutes later had a 198 pound mako in the boat and headed for the scale. The fish ended up taking FIRST PLACE the largest mako prize and a great end to our 2009 shark tournament season!!! Fluke
Mary Lou Crew had a half day fluke trip with a bunch of young kids. We made one drop and had three keepers and two seabass on two drifts and had to come in!!! Sick crew members ended what was looking to be a good day!!! End of the Year
The Mary Lou Crew is out of the water and finished for the year. We would like to thank everyone who joined us onboard for the 2009 season. We look forward to having you back with us for 2010. We will once again be sailing out of Sandy Hook Bay Marina in the Highlands for the month of May for the hot Striper bite and then be back in Brielle at Hoffmans Marina for the Shark season which was outstanding in 2010 and the rest of the summer bite!
